Directors

David Gibbens BScEcon, FCA, Registered Auditor
David Gibbens
David joined Poole Waterfield in 2004 and became a director in 2008. He now heads our audit and assurance team and leads the delivery of our bespoke services to the legal and professional sector. David qualified as a chartered accountant with a large international practice in the early 1990’s and later held senior investigation positions with the Law Society.

David has a very broad base of experience with a particular focus on business tax planning, financial strategy and business restructuring issues. He also has a specialist knowledge of the legal sector.

Married with a daughter, David has held a Welsh Rugby Union debenture for many years, follows test cricket and is an avid reader.
Helen Gibbens BScEcon, FCCA, FCA, Registered Auditor
Helen Gibbens
Helen joined Poole Waterfield in 1993 and became a director in 2008. Helen has many years experience of accountancy, audit and tax but now largely concentrates on practice management and development. Helen qualified as a chartered certified accountant in 1996 and was admitted to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2006.

Helen is married with a daughter. She enjoys playing tennis and is actively involved with school committees.
William Waterfield BScEcon, FMAAT, AAIA
William Waterfield
William joined Poole Waterfield in 1987 and became a director in 2008. He now heads our accounts team. William has many years’ experience of solving both technical and practical issues for clients.

William has dealt with a huge variety of sectors and business types, with a particular focus on business tax planning and VAT.

William is married and has held a private pilot’s license for many years. He is also a keen photographer.
John Waterfield ACCA, FAIA, Registered Auditor
John Waterfield
John was a founding partner of Poole Waterfield in 1958, and became a director on our incorporation in 2008. In a long career, John has gained great experience in many aspects of business and finance. His particular interests lie in developing clients’ businesses and finding commercial solutions to a wide variety of issues faced by companies and their owners.

John has served on a number of national committees for the ACCA and has sat on their auditing committee for many years.

John is married with two grown up children and a granddaughter. He is an accomplished classical pianist with a passion for vintage sports cars.

Consultants

Peter Rayney FCA, CTA (Fellow), TEP
Peter Rayney
Peter has been Poole Waterfield’s Tax Technical Consultant since 2008. He is widely regarded as one of the most eminent tax experts in the country and prior to joining the team was National Tax Technical Partner at BDO. Peter has a wealth of practical taxation experience and is well known as a leading lecturer and writer, having twice won “Tax Writer of the Year”.

Peter specialises in Corporate Tax/ OMB Tax and Corporate Finance Tax and is chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty’s SME Business Tax Committee.

Peter has a grown up family. His interests are in music, food and West Ham United.
Barry Wilkinson, MA FCMA
Barry Wilkinson
Barry Wilkinson helps medium-sized Law Firms, to improve their business performance, helping successful ones grow turnover, profits and client loyalty, and turning round the “stressed but not distressed”. His clients say that he gives them the confidence to tackle the real challenges which face firms today and to get Partners to move forward together.

Barry is the founder of Wilkinson Read, an Executive Committee member of the Law Management Section, and a member of both the Institute for Turnaround and the Association of Partnership Practitioners.
Stephanie Churchill, CTA (Fellow), TEP
Steph Churchill

Stephanie is an experienced tax professional with a wealth of experience in advising wealthy individuals from a personal perspective and in relation to extracting funds tax efficiently from their companies.
 

She has been in the tax profession for almost 20 years. She trained at one of the big 4 accountancy firms and worked in mid-tier accountancy firms for a number of years thereafter.
 

Stephanie is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
 

Stephanie has wide ranging experience in advising wealthy individuals and their businesses. She is well known in the private client professional community for being a tax technical expert with a commercial approach to dealing with the issues of affluent business owners and high net worth individuals. Stephanie studied at the University of Birmingham (English and American Studies).
